Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Ice Rink Finder ("we", "our", "the app") is a free mobile application that helps people discover public ice skating sessions at rinks near them. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

2. What we collect

When you use Ice Rink Finder, we collect the following anonymous usage data:

• Anonymous device ID — a randomly generated identifier used to understand general usage patterns. This ID cannot be used to identify you and is not linked to any personal data.
• Distance bucket — we record which distance range a session was relative to you (e.g., "0–5 miles", "5–15 miles"). Your exact GPS coordinates are never stored or transmitted to our servers.
• Session interaction events — when you view a session, add one to your calendar, tap directions, or toggle a rink as a favorite. These events help us understand which sessions and rinks are most valuable.
• Search patterns — what session types and date ranges you search for. This helps us identify unmet demand so we can add rinks that skaters actually want.
• App lifecycle events — app open and general navigation events, used only to understand overall usage volume.

3. What we never collect

We are explicitly designed not to collect the following:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any account information
• Your exact GPS location — we only ever receive the distance bucket you're in
• Payment or financial information of any kind
• Contacts, photos, or any other device data beyond what is listed above
• Data from other apps on your device
• Browsing history or cross-app tracking

We do not require you to create an account. The app is fully functional without any sign-in.

4. How we use analytics data

The anonymous usage events we collect are used exclusively for:

• Improving the app — understanding which features are used most and where users encounter friction
• Expanding rink coverage — identifying cities and regions with high demand but low rink coverage
• Detecting schedule gaps — understanding what times skaters search for but no sessions exist
• Aggregate reporting — producing anonymized demand reports shared with rink operators (see Section 5)

Analytics data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for any purpose other than improving the skating discovery experience.

5. Rink intelligence data

Ice Rink Finder provides rink operators with aggregate, anonymized reports about demand patterns at their facilities. These reports include data such as:

• Total session views per time period
• Most-searched session types and time slots
• Number of searches with no matching sessions
• Favoriting and calendar-add rates

Rink reports contain only aggregated counts and rates — never individual user data, device IDs, or location information.

6. Third parties

We use the following third-party services to operate Ice Rink Finder:

• Supabase — database and backend infrastructure (hosted in the United States). Usage events and session data are stored here. Supabase's privacy policy applies to this data storage.
• Apple Maps / Google Maps — used when you tap "Get Directions". We do not control or receive data from these navigation services; their respective privacy policies apply.
• Expo / React Native — the mobile app framework. No telemetry data is sent to Expo by Ice Rink Finder beyond standard crash reporting.

We do not use third-party advertising networks, analytics platforms (e.g., Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude), or social media SDKs.

7. Data retention

Anonymous usage events are retained for 30 days in their raw form. After 30 days, only aggregated summaries are retained for rink reporting purposes. Aggregated summaries contain no individual user data.

Rink schedule data (sessions) is retained for the current day minus 7 days through the current day plus 30 days. Expired sessions are automatically deleted.

8. Your rights

Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, we cannot identify or retrieve data associated with a specific person. However:

• You can opt out of analytics tracking in the app's Settings screen at any time
• Opting out prevents all future usage events from being recorded
• Since data is anonymous, we cannot retroactively delete past events associated with your device (we have no way to identify which events were yours)

If you are located in the European Union or California and have specific data rights requests, please contact us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's privacy

Ice Rink Finder does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or age verification because no personal data is collected from any user. The anonymous usage signals we collect apply equally to all users and cannot be used to identify whether a user is a child.

If you believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will promptly investigate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide notice within the app. Continued use of Ice Rink Finder after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
